Angel of Death Victorious
Sculpted in 1923 by Herman Matzen, the Angel of Death Victorious is the most famous marker in the Lake View Cemetery. The six foot, 1500 pound bronze angel sits on his massive granite throne at the gravesite of Francis Haserot, hands folded atop an upside down torch. The torch is said to signify the exthinguishing of life. The years have streaked his bronze skin and caused tears of discolored metal to stream from his blank eyes. Some say the angel is crying for those whose lives he’s extinguished.
